This is a bronze sculpture of Artemis the Hellenic goddess of hunt, wild animals, wilderness, childbirth, virginity and young girls, bringing and relieving disease in women. She often was depicted as a huntress carrying a bow and arrows. However, in this representation, she can be imagined valiantly walking through a deep forest, putting a loose strand of hair in its place, while one of her hunting dogs yaps at her feet. Artemis got her hunting dogs from Pan in the forest of Arcadia. Pan gave Artemis two black-and-white dogs, three reddish ones, and one spotted one - these dogs were able to hunt even lions. She was cast using the ancient method of lost-wax casting and stained with a brown patina finish for preservation. She is mounted upon a black marble base with the artist Pierre Le Faguay`s signature.
