Many men who made their living in these fierce waters, during the most violent seasons, have never returned home.This sculpture symbolizes life at high sea. The seasoned sailor leans into his wheel and fights to keep control, as waves roll up his side. He is dressed like a hardworking fisherman with a soggy shirt, trousers, and hat. He stands on the curve of a wave. The base of the wheel is surrounded by waves.
