Based on one of Auguste Rodin`s most famous sculptures, The Thinker. Initially named the The Poet, The Thinker statue was intended to represent Dante himself at the top of the door reflecting on the scene below. However, we can speculate that Rodin thought of the figure in broader, more universal terms. The Thinker is depicted as a man in sober meditation battling with a powerful internal struggle. The unique pose with hand to the chin, right elbow to the left knee, and crouching position allows the statue to survey the work with a contemplative feel. A sculpture for fellow deep thinkers and testament to all to always think twice. It is a two-toned patina, with silver hair and brown skin. 100% bronze and handmade, this sculpture was cast using the "Lost Wax Method" and mounted on a marble base. Now considered to be one of the greatest sculptors of all time, Auguste Rodin had a turbulent early period enduring the boredom of several art schools and poverty as a young artist living in a nation engaged in war. However, when France recovered from the Franco-Prussian War, Rodin was prepared with sculpture models that would re-adorn France. As illustrated in this sculpture, “Eternal Idol”, by the two lovers who tenderly touch Rodin’s work is characterized by his deft modeling of the human form in a semi-impressionistic, semi-realistic image.
