According to the Book of Genesis, Adam, fashioned by God from the dust, is seen walking among the garden of Eden, "to work it and watch over it." God permits Adam to eat from all the tress in the garden except the Tree of Knowledge. We witness the fall from grace as he eats the apple given to him by Eve whom was seduced by the serpent. A fig leaf covers his once unashamed nudity as he will then drop the apple to find a place to hide from the sight of God. The handmade bronze sculpture was molded using the early method of lost-wax casting and stained with a brown patina finish for perpetuation. It is mounted upon a black marble base with the the European Bronze Finery stamp of quality and the artist Dalou's signature.
Aimé-Jules Dalou (31 December 1838, Paris – 15 April 1902) was a French sculptor, recognized as one of the most brilliant virtuosos of nineteenth-century France, admired for his perceptiveness, execution, and unpretentious realism.
