The male and female lion sit and lay on the open plains strewn with the gold light of the setting sun. In synchronicity, they stare out to something lost and then found in the mirage of the horizon. After curiosity leaves the cats, the female will resume cleaning her front paws as the male will go back to scenting the air in the dusk. Other than a symbol for strength, other symbolic attributes of the lion include courage, power, royalty, dignity, authority, dominion, justice, wisdom and ferocity. The handmade bronze sculpture was molded using the age-old method of lost-wax casting and stained with a brown patina finish for conservation. It is mounted upon a black marble base with the artist Barye`s signature.
